Hoping the holiday season finds everyone happy, healthy and surrounded by friends and family!! Since we first posted this story last holiday season, the acapella group, Straight No Chaser has become an amazing success!  They have a new holiday album out this year, "Christmas Cheer" which you can buy off their new website http://www.sncmusic.com/ as well as find tour dates in your area in 2010!  Check them out on the cover of Cosmo!  And like any good business, they have a blog, a twitter, facebook and myspace account! So once I again I get sucked in for the rest of the night!  One of the videos features an acapella group, Straight No Chaser.  And I LOVE acapella!  Especially at Christmas.  So in the spirit of the holidays, here's a story of how social marketing and web 2.0 technology made these 10 guys an overnight success....Oh yeah, helps that they're pretty talented too. On this historic day and in keeping with the general theme of our site, I am going to tell you that Obama won the election using the power of the internet.  But not just using the internet, but using it well! "Obama's Internet campaign changes politics." -The New York Times Words can't describe how excited and proud I am today.  Now I could gush some more, sing the man praises and shout out to the world how wonderful it is to hear full sentences woven together to form paragraphs that lead to a clear conclusion, but I digress... So whether you're a fan or not that into him, you have to give the guy props for using the internet, specifically Web 2.0 technology. He hired Facebook co-founder Chris Hughes in early 2007. Back in April of '08 he had over 500,000 unique visits on his site, to Hillary's 350,00, to McCain's 38,000.  Plus people stayed on his site 3x longer to watch his videos. 3 million election day "get the vote out" phone calls were made via internet. I’m really seeing that SMO (Social Marketing Optimization) is the way to go! Great example--Gary Vaynerchuk (VAY NER CHUK), star of www.winelibrary.com has built an amazing e-commerce site. At first, no one could find him on Google. But Gary went from having 60K unique visitors back in Sept 2007 to over 120K today! The guy must be bringing in at least $150K a month in product revenue alone! He’s also appeared on the Ellen DeGeneres Show, Conan O’Brian and Nightline for his innovation and online business savvy. How does he do it? Routinely posts a video blog (vlog) at least couple times a week if not more. He posts on social marketing networks just enough to get people back to his site.
