Taming 2.0

Shhhh! Be vewy vewy quiet….we’re hunting Web 2.0s…hehehehehe!

(Said in hushed tones and possibly with an Australian accent) We are busy tracking the elusive yet ever more dominant web 2.0. This creature is quietly but most certainly making its presence known. From our observations, its natural habitat is spreading throughout the world wide web. This is definitely not your garden variety technology! In our rudimentary studies we have discovered that the 2.0 is a gregarious, social creature gathering information and follower as it grows and evolves.

The 2.0 is not to be mistaken for its predecessor Web 1.0! Oh no! Although they both inhabit the same domain the 2.0 is a younger, far more powerful, agile, more interactive beast. Where 1.0 was informative and could be very visually stunning, it is still one dimensional. It is very difficult to interact with this creature, whereas the 2.0 is two dimensional allowing for social interaction, multi media communication and real-time discourse. The 2.0 lures its prey by harnessing its prey’s overwhelming need as tribal beings to connect to one another and then keep it enthralled with its infinite applications!

You of the general populace, may have first noticed the Web 2.0 (genus) / MySpace (species). Or heard about similar encounters from other friends who have since succumbed and incorporated 2.0 into their daily lives. When spotted, most of us still proceed with caution, unable to fathom the true nature of the beast. But don’t be alarmed! A relationship with the 2.0 can be satisfying and fruitful.

In its evolutionary journey we have tagged several new incarnations of the 2.0. Besides the first version of MySpace which in comparison seems like a dinosaur (clunky, slow and unweilding) we are now tracking more agile creatures such as FaceBook, Twitter, Yelp, Squidoo, YouTube, Flickr and Pownce to name only a few.

More recently, larger, more cunning predators such as Rupert Murdoch, captured MySpace using a 273 billion dollar net.
